It's a "talk like a pirate" themed articulation and language adventure for speech therapy! Students read a 2nd grade level pirate story, highlight words containing their target sounds, and categorize them by sound position or blends. For language targets, they can identify and sort the pirate-themed words by parts of speech.

Activities can be used over multiple sessions: With activities like reading, notating, practicing, sorting, coloring, choosing names for a pirate crew (Mad-Lib style), and creating pirate-themed sentences or stories, this resource keeps students engaged over multiple speech therapy sessions.

1. Story Reading and Notation: First, students read through the pirate-themed story. Speech therapists can keep a separate copy for making notes while the student reads, allowing for observation and feedback.

2. Identifying Target Sounds: Students re-read the story, this time highlighting words containing the target speech sound, like /r/. This helps them identify and focus on their articulation goals.

3. Sorting Words by Sound Position &/or Parts of Speech: After identifying target words, students sort them by where the sound appears in the word—beginning, middle, or end—or sort by noun, verb or describing words.

4. Interactive Coloring and Practice: Students color the story illustrations, practicing the highlighted words while they engage in a creative, hands-on activity. This reinforces the sounds they've identified.

5. Name Yer Crew Activity (Mad-Lib Style): Students personalize their pirate experience by choosing pirate names for their crew & ship and completing illustrations, adding faces to the pirate characters.

6. Creative Sentence/Story Writing: Finally, students use the target words they’ve collected to create pirate-themed sentences or their own story, encouraging them to practice the sounds in a functional, imaginative context.
